Pauper’s Prayer

Before the foundation of the world was laid
God chose me in love
Prior to the existence of the universe
I was in His mind above
Oh, how comforting a thought is this
Oh, my inexpressible gratefulness

When given the choice to stand in God’s presence
I chose to turn away
And though I made that mistake through Adam
I still reject my Creator each day
For my pride is still great and sometimes I think I’m still a slave to sin
Oh what a state of wretchedness I’m in

The Word left His place with God
Became flesh and dwelt on earth
Because of His unconditional love for me
He endured a lowly birth
At the sacrifice on the cross He had me in His mind
I can never thank you Lord, for Your mercy is too kind
